The Bookfold Deodar Cedar Table 2 is a striking work of functional art, crafted from two matching “sister” or “book-fold” halves of a Deodar Cedar tree that survived the 2017 Sonoma County “Tubbs” Fire. Harvested soon after the fire and discovered by the artist in 2019, the reclaimed slabs were sourced by Chris at M4’s in Guerneville. The tabletop, boasts the live-edge book-fold design that we in the wood business all drool over. It weighs an impressive 194 lbs and is accented with exquisite copperwork repurposed from the gutter of a restored Sonoma mansion.
The table features a rusted steel base connected by a gear to a 99 lb. cast iron wheel. The height is adjustable height 28" to 32" to suit both decorative and dining purposes and if the buyer already has chairs that would not otherwise fit. Two drop-down legs provide additional support for 6 to 8 guest gatherings. Six 3/8" steel dowels ensure the table halves remain perfectly aligned, while two coats of tung oil enhance the cedar’s unbelievable natural beauty.
Though it travels in five parts. Its combined weight and size demand skilled handling. The piece embodies resilience, history, and artisanal precision—transforming reclaimed fire-scarred wood into a lasting centerpiece.
